What is Tennessee PATENTS?

Tennessee PATENTS stands for Pro bono Assistance & Training for Entrepreneurs and New, Talented, Solo inventors. The program assists solo inventors, non-profits, and small businesses with finding patent agents and attorneys to help file patents on a pro bono basis.

Providing Legal Assistance to Tennessee Inventors

Can Tennessee PATENTS help me with my invention?

Yes! If you qualify for our program, Tennessee PATENTS will attempt to place you with a patent attorney or agent that best fits your needs to file your patent application.

Will Tennessee PATENTS do a prior art search for me?

At this time, Tennessee PATENTS and its volunteer attorneys and agents do not offer prior art search assistance to clients. You must complete this on your own before placement.

How do I apply?

Head to our For Inventors page and read all the information provided. Then, fill out our application.

How long does the process take?

The length of the entire process varies from client to client. The application process depends on your responsiveness as a client. The placement process depends on your invention type and the availability of attorneys for that subject matter. Finally, if your idea or invention is patentable, expect the patenting process to take several years to complete.
